fancy lichen and a couple other things

I found this lichen, (I think it’s called trumpet lichen?) and another spiky sort, in a forest in CT last week. Don’t know what I did wrong lichen care wise but the last one I had dropped dead immediately. This time it’s in the terrarium and so far doing well and maybe even growing a little. I’ll keep you painfully up to date on my lichen’s progress and all the other very exciting things that happen in my terrarium.

I have not abandoned the birds. I made three for the one in ten auction that I’ll post here soon and I promise there will be birds available in my shop in a little while including new bride and groom pairs. I’m still getting through current cake topper orders. This set was for Amy of Seamsters. She sent fabric she printed herself and I love her patchwork idea. I’m working on some patchwork pirate birds now.

Another favorite photo from Tinlark. ( photographers name coming soon)

It makes me wish I could take better pictures. I’ve started looking at beginning photography courses in new york this fall and any recommendations are welcome.

The opening for the Modern Fable Show is this Saturday July 14th from 4-9. I’m leaving early tomorrow for LA to hang my ships and 100 horses ( and a couple other things). Come say hi.

I’ve been wanting to make bird buttons forever and I finally did today.

3buttons1.jpg

I’ll have some pirate jack buttons and magnets to give away on Saturday. I’m going to make a little limited edition set of pirate bird magnets and they’ll be in the shop soon.

(you’re welcome to contact the gallery for purchase info on ships)

I’ve been a slacker on my flea market reports lately

3greenpot.jpg

I got this green pot a couple weeks ago. I love it, it’s my current favorite color.

WIP: another sail for the Ginger Rose and some first thoughts on a new ship.

Work in progress for tinlark.

3june1307.jpg

The last daily bird for a while, at least until after the tinlark show.

3rosey.jpg

Rosey will be in the shop at 8PM EST.

* I can’t take little bird orders right now. I wish I could but I’ve got to focus on things for the show and current orders. *

* Cake topper orders are closed for June and July *

* I’m getting off the 6 am photo program. It has served it’s purpose. The super early start is working well but taking the picture is a distraction. *

*Paper mache- I use wheat paste, Golden Harvest wheat paste ( wall paper paste)*

tookoolito

tinlark

If you’ve check out Laura Normandin’s blog then you already know I’m participating in a show in LA this July at Tinlark Gallery with Laura and Maggie Hiltner. It’s flattering to be included with such talented people. I’m enjoying making things for the show and excited in kind of a mildly hysterical way about the experience – I’ve never done anything like this before and the thought is a little overwhelming. I’m doing an installation in the project room that will include the 100 horse project.

3horseshow.jpg

The space is perfect for the horses and I’m also making new ships and some other things. I’ll be posting progress photos and will probably be getting myself on some kind of self -inflicted program soon to insure steady forward progress.

3ship4.jpg

I’ll give you more news on the show as it becomes available.

Today’s bird, Freda, looks like she means business.

3freda.jpg

She’ll be in the shop at 8:30 PM EST.

progress

Progress on some new ships:

3wipships.jpg

It’s been an extra busy week, hence the lack of posts but I’ ll be back next week with some news and the daily bird.

* check out Laura Normandin’s new blog. *

The Pollyanna (again)

Recently, I gave the Pollyanna, a ship I made last summer, a little overhaul – new sails, a layer of paper, some pink paint and new flags and now she’s being auctioned to benefit The Children’s Aid Society . You’ll find the auction here.

3ship21.jpg

And the daily bird:

3amybeth.jpg

Amybeth. She’ll be in the shop at 6 PM EST this evening.

The Fortitude

This is the Fortitude. She’ll be auctioned (beginning Wednesday the 3rd) in the benefit organized by Lisa, Stephanie, and Gerrie for the Kim family. There’s lot’s of amazing stuff; you can see a preview here.

3fortitude.jpg

3fortitude2.jpg

Her sails are sheer swiss dot salvaged from an edwardian lawn dress and some other vintage bits including pieces of a beautiful aqua, rose and green paisley dress my mother made for herself in the sixties, it’s one of my all time most favorite fabrics.

Happy New Year !

I’ve got good friends

I do, and they really showed up for me on Saturday for THE GIFT on grand. I’ve been working my ass off and had come pretty much unglued by Saturday morning but my amazing pit crew put the whole thing together. So thanks, to each and every one of you, I would have been lost without you. I’m still kinda unglued from the effort of the last couple weeks and my computer is being all slow and weird too so everything is taking me forever including updating my shop. I finally got it done and there are a few new birds there now.

The show on Saturday was great. It was my first time doing anything like that and I wasn’t sure what to expect but it went really well and I learned a lot. Thanks to everybody who came by to say hi and to Sodafine for putting it together.

3gog.jpg

I’ve been working on wedding cake toppers. The Bride and groom birds in the photo are gone but I should have some new things available by February .

3fortitude1.jpg

The ship above is my newest “The Fortitude”. I’m going to take and post my customary too many pictures tomorrow.

*Note on the photo below*
That’s the Christmas tree at Grand Army Plaza here in Park Slope.

creepy

Yesterday we put up the halloween window at Johnson. There were chocolate covered pretzels and mini candies and champagne. It was a lovely time indeed. This is the ghost ship, The Antonia, I barely had time to take a picture, some of the paint wasn’t even dry when I got in the cab.

3antonia.jpg

3antonia1.jpg

I was in a mad frenzy of making creepy things over the weekend. These bats are made from victorian bits and pieces.

3bats.jpg

3bats1.jpg

The bats were fun to make, and so was this little spider, I’ll probably make a few more. He’s sitting on an unfinished paper mache mushroom. I had planned on making a bunch of mushrooms but this one took forever.

3spider.jpg

And here’s the window sort of done. It needs a little more work. Note the creepy sales lady lurking in the backround.
