tinlark
Wednesday, May 30th, 2007If you’ve check out Laura Normandin’s blog then you already know I’m participating in a show in LA this July at Tinlark Gallery with Laura and Maggie Hiltner. It’s flattering to be included with such talented people. I’m enjoying making things for the show and excited in kind of a mildly hysterical way about the experience - I’ve never done anything like this before and the thought is a little overwhelming. I’m doing an installation in the project room that will include the 100 horse project.
The space is perfect for the horses and I’m also making new ships and some other things. I’ll be posting progress photos and will probably be getting myself on some kind of self -inflicted program soon to insure steady forward progress.
I’ll give you more news on the show as it becomes available.
Today’s bird, Freda, looks like she means business.
She’ll be in the shop at 8:30 PM EST.
The daily bird is back
Tuesday, May 29th, 2007I’m not sure for how long but at least for this week. This is rosalee.

She’ll be in the shop at 8:30 PM.
Something Christmasy in progress:
I’m still working on it. Here’s a shot of the little set.
And another not so pretty behind the scenes picture.
This is what about 95% of the pictures I take look like.
*news about ships , 100 horses and some other things tomorrow*
progress
Friday, May 25th, 2007Progress on some new ships:
It’s been an extra busy week, hence the lack of posts but I’ ll be back next week with some news and the daily bird.
* check out Laura Normandin’s new blog. *

Thursday, May 17th, 2007ruth and new cake toppers
Tuesday, May 15th, 2007The daily bird for tuesday - ruth.
And a custom cake topper
and bride and groom set
who recently went off to serve in their official capacity.
nature calls
Monday, May 14th, 2007I left brooklyn this weekend and went moss hunting. I also found a great spider web. I’m generally against insects of any kind but I love a nice round web with a little and relatively unobjectionable spider right in the middle.
I got an awful lot of moss. I hope nothing crawls out of it tonight.
It’s way more than I need for one little fish bowl (the terrarium becky made me didn’t survive a couple environmental challenges and a persistent mold problem) so I’m also going to make a few other terrariums and arrangements. The first one is a thoughtful little man in a garden.
It’s Monday so I’m back on the daily bird porgram. This is Cora.

She’ll be in the shop at 8PM EST.
alice and something small
Wednesday, May 9th, 2007I thought I was going to make a cora today but an alice turned up. She is the daily bird and she will be in the shop at 8pm est.
This very mini pincushion is a surprise that came in the mail from my sister becky. It’s felted and has a little removable crocheted base.
aubrey
Tuesday, May 8th, 2007 The daily bird,(monday) aubrey.
a pink ballerina and the fleamarket report
Monday, May 7th, 2007I’ll start with the ballerina:

She was a special order but I plan on making more - maybe some swan lake ballerinas.
The fleamarket - an embarrassment of riches.
I’ve been kind of looking around for a new sewing box for taking the bird operation on the road and this turned up on Sunday.
A perfect box WITH STUFF IN IT for almost zero dollars !!! The little bit of fabric didn’t come in the box. It’s a swatch from a vintage coverlet - pale blue seersucker with tiny roses. A guy was using it to wrap furniture. It’s great fabric and I’m gonna make the daily bird out of it (8pm est). I think my favorite thing in the box is this button:

And the rest of it. An entire fisher price family? Oh my.
I’m not sure there is anyone, anywhere, having more fun than me. It probably wouldn’t even be healthy.
ava
Thursday, May 3rd, 2007The daily bird - ava - 8PM EST.
I tried to post Wednesday’s bird, lucy, here yesterday but wordpress was being weird and slow and wouldn’t let me. Here she in prospect park. Lucy was a good poser. It was kinda breezy yesterday and she stood on that skinny little twig unassisted.

And a little work in progress.
A few cake toppers are hitting the road tomorrow and these are some millinery bits and pieces getting a little paint and glitter for one that I’m finishing up right now. I made a last minute trip to Tinsel Trading for flowers this afternoon.
liberty
Tuesday, May 1st, 2007The daily bird for today, liberty:
She’s made from a vintage liberty of london tie purchased at the flea market this past weekend. She’s one of a small edition -till I run out of tie - and she’ll be in the shop at 8PM EST.
Here are some other fleamarket fabrics - a couple dresses, handmade handkerchiefs, some bark cloth. Good stuff.
I think that little rooster will be a flag for a ship.
