wedding cake topper
Yesterday’s glittery little photo was a little tiny top hat for a groom bird. Below are some of the other bits and pieces that became a cake topper I’ve been thinking about forever.
I love this antique lace so much I almost couldn’t use it. Luckily I’ve got a pretty deluxe stash of old lace for dolling up future bird brides. I’ll show you some time.

I had a ball making it. Here they are coming

and going
and on a swiss dot and seam binding cake.
The cake is sitting on a paper mache cake stand. I love a cake stand. The whole thing is in the window at Kim Johnson’s Shop on Orchard St. She has some new valentiney birds for sale as well. More on the bird madness at my shop this morning and other places you can buy a bird later. The cake toppers will be available soon in my shop and a couple other places, feel free to email if you have an immediate need.

Wonderful, as always! I wish I would have had them at my wedding! Question: How does one go about making wire legs for plush? How do you get them to stay in? How do you cover them? I can’t seem to figure it out!

Dear Ann,
I love all the paintings and objects that you create. It is a real honor to come and visit your lovely site. This beautiful and loving couple sitting on the cake is so wonderful. Sweet and soulful.
Take care.

Stephanie S is right, their postures are perfect. You always do so much more than just make a bird, you give them personality and life. If those had been on my wedding cake, they would have made me cry with joy.

I adore that cake topper! I wasn’t even going to have a cake, but now I am, and it was going to just be a plain one, but now I think I must have some birds on them for my farm wedding.
Do you have price estimates, or would you take color requests? I’m not getting married until June…

hi ann! just wanted to say i totally relate about loving the lace too much to use it… i have that problem all the time but am trying hard to overcome it! i have hundreds of vintage doilies which i plan to use in clothing this spring, and it’s going to teach me that giving vintage pieces a new life is MUCH better than letting them languish in a box… everything you make is heavenly; can’t wait to see what’s next!
